In 1910, Dr. George Flippin built a large frame hospital on Fourth Street. This building was used as a hospital, a funeral home, again a hospital and then an apartment house.
In 1993, the building was purchased from the city by Cathy Stromberg McAulay. It was relocated to its present location on the corner of Eighth & Main Streets.
It has been completely remodeled and redecorated throughout with many antiques, and is now Stromberg's värdshus, a Bed & Breakfast, with four rooms each with a private bath.
The värdshus opened for business with an open house on June 17, 1996. Your hosts at Stromberg's värdshus are Charles & Vesta Stromberg.
Today in Stromsburg you'll find all kinds of wonderful family activities for the young and old. The Swedish Festival is held annually on the third weekend in June. A wide, newly installed, biking and hiking trail joins City Park to Buckley Park. Swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball and picnic areas are available. Six churches welcome you to worship with them.
Stromsburg, the Swede Capital of Nebraska, is a very friendly town located on Highway 81 approximately 20 miles north of Interstate 80.
